Declutter Your Home in 5 Simple Ways

We spend a lot of time in our homes, but it's easy to forget how cluttered and chaotic they can get. It's important to declutter your space so you can create more room for yourself and also make it easier to find things when you need them. Here are some tips on how to declutter your home:

Declutter Your Bedroom and Closet

In the bedroom, you want to make sure everything is easily accessible and put away when it's not being used. Start by putting your clothes in a dresser or closet. If you have more than one person in your household, make sure everyone’s clothes are separated and organized in a way that makes sense for the flow of their day.

Next, clear out any clutter from under the furniture and in closets. Avoid stacking things on top of each other, so you don’t have to move one thing to get to another. Take care of any other items that may be cluttering up your bedroom or closet space like bookshelves, boxes, old shoes you don’t wear, photo albums, and anything else that might be hanging out, rarely used (or unused), taking up space in your room.

Organize Your Closet

Sort by type of clothing. It can be hard to find the right clothes, especially if they're all in a pile! It's important to separate your “work” clothes from your “everyday” ones. If you want to keep track of what goes where and when, try sorting your closet by season or by size. For example, winter jackets should be stored in one place while summer dresses go in another area. You can sort by what makes sense to you: seasons, color, style, materials, how often you wear it, etc.

Clean Out Your Pantry

The pantry is one of the most neglected parts of your kitchen, but it's also the one that's most likely to be difficult to organize. You can't just throw things in a box and hope they'll stay organized forever. You need to make sure that everything has a home where it belongs and knows what it is used for.

Start by cleaning out your pantry (and yes, this includes all cabinets as well). Take everything out so that there are no duplicates or expired food left behind. If something isn't being used anymore, then remove it from the pantry entirely. You don't want anything taking up space unnecessarily!

Once these steps have been completed, it's time for organization! Organize each section based on its purpose. Breakfast foods should go near the fridge so they're easy to access when cooking or eating breakfast. Snacks should be placed in another section near counter-side drawers for easy reachability throughout meals. Condiments should go next door at countertop height where sauce bottles could topple over without being stacked too high against each other (which happens easily with smaller bottles like olive oil). Ultimately, you need to organize it in a way that makes sense with the flow of your kitchen and fits your family’s needs.

Declutter and Organize Your Office

When you declutter your office, it's important to keep only the items you use. You'll want a filing system so any documents and important papers are easy to find when they need to be filed away. If you don't use something, get rid of it! A shredder is another great tool for disposing of sensitive information like financial records or medical records (especially if those documents contain personal information).

If there are still too many items cluttering up your desk after all this organization work, consider using sticky notes or labels on file folders so everything stays organized and easily retrievable.

Create a "Donate" Box

You can create a "donate" box in your closet or on top of your dresser. Include things like clothes, shoes, accessories, and other items you don't use anymore. Many people also keep this box in their living room so they can easily access it when they want to donate something.

It's important to keep this area organized so that it doesn't become cluttered with random items lying around the house or apartment. Do not put anything in there that isn't up for grabs.

To declutter your space, you'll need to be honest about what you have and don't have. If you don't know how much stuff is in your home or where it is, then it's time to get some help.

Once you take inventory of the items that clutter up your space, ask yourself if each item has a purpose or function. Decide if any of those items could be donated or sold. The best part about organizing is seeing how much better things look once they're organized properly.
